Bridport Gas Works Update

Bridport Gas WorksFollowing confusion regarding the scheduling of the South Street Gas Works a Bridport Business committee member kindly offered to contact Scotia Gas Networks to confirm the situation.

A spokesperson for SGN said:

“I have been asked to contact you to clarify the confusion that has occurred with our information letters that you have received regarding our programme of works.”

“The work has recommenced in South Street on Phase 1 as described on the leaflets distributed last year near to South Walks where we ended in December 2011 and will progress towards the Town Hall and the junction of East Street. Once we get to Gundry Lane we are planning to introduce a one way system and then a full road closure when we reach the Town Hall but the timings and exact details of these traffic orders are yet to be finalised with Dorset County Council.”

“No work will be carried out in the Town after the Easter Holiday period as we understand that this would have a dramatic effect on the Summer Holiday season for the local traders so it is expected that all work in East Street will be carried out from September 2012 onwards.”

“If we have amazing progress prior to Easter in South Street then we may look to see if there would be any benefit in starting before Easter in East Street at the South Street Junction but this would need to be a joint decision between SGN, Dorset County Council and Bridport Town Council.”
